I am thinking about buying a new knife.(don't we all😃)Anywho I am wanting a sage 1,but I don't really want to spend $100 for a sage 1. Now I can afford the delica 4. Should I save up for a sage 1 or buy the delica 4? Is the sage worth the $100+. Let me know...... Thanks in advance.

I bought another Delica 4. I do not really care for liner locks for safety reasons, though Spyderco does them better than anyone else, I believe. The Delica as a nice finger guard to keep your hand from sliding forward and if the lock does fail and you are holding the knife in the correct manner, the collapsed blade tang will hit your finger rather than the blade's cutting edge. The blade design is better across a wider spectrum of tasks. It is also lighter weight. My personal "grail" knife is a Delica 4 in Foliage Green G10 that I missed out on (though the upcoming blue G10 will assuage my pain :D ).

Both are good knives. The Sage has better steel unless you get a Delica with zdp189. The fit and finish on the Sage 1 is excellent and it is a very good value for the money ,as is the Delica. The Sage 1 is a better knife in many respects.

Had a Sage.. Sold it.. Ergos off to me.. Go with the Delica.. Got 3 of those!! John:thumbup:

As the owner of both knives, I prefer the Delica. That's kinda strange since I really love the choil on Spyderco knives and the Delica is one of the models that is choil-less while the Sage has one. Even though the Sage is a lovely knife with great steel and the choil and has excellent ergonomics, I've just never warmed up to it very much.

If possible, try handling both knives and see how they feel in your pocket. Those are the most important factors.

The sage is worth the money, and I much prefer it over the delica. It only feels good in my hand while using the choil though since my hands fairly large (xl gloves).

For spydercos in that size range nothing beats the ergos of the native for me.

In my HO get the Sage1....It is an awsome folder. I've had mine for approximately one year and it's great!! The Sage1 feels /carries like a knife that might retail for around the $170.00 price range. "Take the plunge and buy a Sage1".

The Delica is the classic Spyderco and worth owning for that reason, but it is too small for me. Well the Sage is too small for me too for that matter, but the Para2 is the perfect size. The Sage really appeals to me aesthetically, I'm just sorry it's too small.

Spyderco makes a large variety of knife sizes and with different features so that everyone can find a knife that they like. If the OP likes the Delica then he might like the Endura, Native and Stretch too.
