Experience with a leather belt doubling as a strop?

I normally wear a canvas web belt [which can strop I know], but am considering a wider leather belt that could double as a strop. That and a little zinc oxide plus my leg seems like a good system for convex edges in my mind's eye.

Ideas? Experiences?

EDIT: Is it true horsehide is better than cowhide for stropping?

My strop is an old leather belt. When I use the belt grinder I get better results on a scotchbrite belt then when I use a leather belt.

I'll have to get a belt grinder one day.

For this, I'm thinking about a field stropper that saves weight. Why pack another piece of gear when your belt will do? I don't see any drawbacks other than the stropping compound messing up my pants, but since I usually wear BDUs in the woods, who cares?

I have a good, wide leather belt, but the problem is the wrinkles in the leather, which is not good for stropping.

I often strop my knives on either my belt or the side of my leather sheaths...works fine !

X2. I have stropped my Vic on my belt for years, wrinkles or not and it works great. My Grandad used to do it in camp with his Old Timer. Still have the scar on my left ring finger from that knife :o. It could shave a gnats A#$.

Now I use an old belt cut way down, glued to a cut down paint stick, and charged with some compound.
