I purchased a Boker Vox Rold fixed blade knife for backpacking/camping. After a few months of use, while batoning firewood, I discovered a warp in the blade. This later resulted in a chip breaking off of the blade (see pics). I spoke with Terry with Boker who got me a new one on the way in no time. Very pleased with their customer service/warranty department!
Unfortunately, the VERY FIRST time I used my replacement, it snapped clean in half about .75" in front (towards tip) of the finger choil. (cannot find pics)
This was a major bummer to me as I was 6 miles in-trail at camp. Luckily I had a secondary that got us by for the remainder of the trip.
Nevertheless, and to my surprise, they had no issue sending me another replacement. Problem now is; I do not plan on relying on it, or D2 steel in general.
They informed me the knife is not intended for use splitting wood/batoning. I pointed out their description states:
"fills the void for a real camp knife" & "maximize the control in chopping and other heavy duty chores"
All water under the bridge now but I just was curious if any of you have had a similar experience.
Thank you for your time, have a great day!
