I've been looking for a good tactical/general purpose fixed blade around the 7" range, but it's been hard to find what I want. Generally, I want a premium steel with some "mild" stain resistance, good toughness, and strong edge retention. I would prefer to have a polished blade finish, but that's pretty tough to find now days. It needs a good guard to keep the hand from shifting forward in a thrust, and a decently flared pommel to keep the hand from slipping off the grip when chopping. I prefer flat grinds, with a decently acute point, but some decent curvature to the blade as well.

So, I really like the design of the Spartan Harsey II. It pretty much fits all of my design criteria. However, I've been hesitant to try out S35VN again. I had one in a Bark River knife and the edge rolled very quickly when scraping pine for firesteel shavings. I'd rather not dish out $400 on a S35VN blade that may suffer from the same problems as my previous knife. So my question is for you guys that have this knife, have you put it through a decent amount of testing? What do you think of the design and the steel? Thanks.

If properly heat treated, s35vn shouldn't have issues with rolling. And I'm sure Spartan Blades does an excellent HT. (I have no personal experience with them yet, but everyone that has one seems to love it.)
