Of course someone on Bladeforums is experienced with Trimble - there are experts in just about everything around here.
What I'm curious about, are there any open source / low cost / free software that's directly compatible with a Trimble SPS 651? I'd like to get something that gives the unit a graphic user interface during use - a more visual output than the lame 2 lines of green monochrome text. I could make use of either a mobile app or desktop program.
I have a bit of experience with mapping software, GIS, and consumer-level GPS units. There are plenty of programs out there that are plug-in compatible with Garmin, Magellan, and the rest. But none that I know of interact directly with Trimble.
