This past weekend, as I was preparing to reduce a few sticks to firewood for a hamburger cookout, my little 3-year-old daughter observed the British Army Service khukuri on my belt and asked, "Daddy, is dat your dun?" (= "gun"; in her speech, G = D, C = T, etc.)
It occurs to me to ask everybody here what experiences they've had in which their oddly-shaped bent knives have been mistaken for pistols by khukuri-unaccustomed observers. I have to say, the appearance does kind of lend itself to that misunderstanding. Stories, anyone?
