im starting on my 3rd folder a slip joint with my first 2 i have ran into a problem. after the blade pivot pin has been peened the pin keeps on turnning with the blade. i need some advise on how to fix this problem. i dont want to use screws for it.

Your going to have to repin it. I drill a small hole in the pin and drive it out with a punch. You probably swelled the center of the pin when you peened it.
You want to swell the ends of the pin by using the ball end of a ballpeen hammer with light blows around the edges of the pin not the center.
There are a couple good books on this subject that are highly recomended, one is ''How to make folding knives'' by Ron Lake, Clay, & Frank Centif?.
The other is How to make slip joints by Tery Davis, Eugene Shadly.

Hope this helps, Don Hanson lll

Hello Bartblade, My method is to taper the pivot hole with a small dremil tool. I do this by hand so that I don't take too much out. I then put my pins and grind them off so that the heads are flat, and so that they are just a little longer than they need to be. The extra length is usually about the same as the thickness of the pin. Using the flat end of the hammer, I give the pins a couple of good whacks. What this does is upsets the ends of the pins and makes them flare out without making the center of the pin swell. This also helps to fill the part of the hole that was tapered. I then turn the hammer around and use the ball of the hammer to peen around the pin until the pin is good and tight. One thing you have to do though is use shims between the blade and the liners. Once you have the knife together you can pull the shims out. This should give the blade a nice smooth action and keep the pins nice and tight. -chris
