Explain Ceramic Bearings to me Please

I ordered a set of Skiff Bearings for my Giant Mouse Ace Grand.
They came in yesterday and I tried to install them in the knife.
They seemed to fit around the pivot but the outer diameter of the bearing is a bit
smaller than the ones that came in the knife.
Is this how it's supposed to be?
Am I correct in assuming that the only dimensions that really matter are the Pivot Diameter
and overall thickness of the bearing (which is also the diameter of the individual balls)?
