Explain this machete design and identify

I suppose that's for delimbing? Isn't that what the blade is for? Perhaps the feature is for removing one's cooking vessel from the fire [a la Ron Hood/Hoodlum]?

Also whales. You can tell from the specific pattern of rust that the blade has been used around salt water.

It's entirely possible the hook is simply so you can hang it up.

But I like the pot hook idea.

after doing some searching, i believe it's a Bushwacker Limb Trim machete that's about 40 years old (made by ontario knife co).

Thanks. I still can't figure out the limb feature. One thing i thought of was to "grab" limbs to pull down that have fruit/berries on them.

Yeah, a thrust attack would be made even nastier with the withdrawal due to that harpoon-like notch

I still don't get the limbing idea. I guess it's useful if one doesn't have the room to swing a blade properly?
