We didn't get to go to Florida as planned this year, not that I like Florida all that much in the middle of summer anyway, but we did get to have a few days up in the Smokies. My mid-tech Kephart may not be as pretty as PolRoger's custom shop one with flame Box Elder , but I thought it was the perfect knife for the environment. Man, now I really custom shop one :)

I saw a few bears, but not close enough for pics this trip, and I found a few piles of bear scat.

I like the old stone walls, I found several places I want to revisit later when I am not hanging out with an eleven year old and won't have to worry as much. I found lots of inspiring locations for the project I am working on.

The Kephart came in handy back at the hotel also, making tinder and small kindling for the fire for hot dogs and smores :)

Then as we left, I think the five days in the Smokies had worn Alayna out almost as much as it had me :)

You always have the best pictures. I always look forward to your posts

That looks like a fantastically fun trip. Great pictures as always.

awesome pics Mist

Alayna is getting so tall. The cairn is too cool as well.

I really enjoy your post. Your pics highlight parts of the woods I've walked past all my life. I've learned to slow down and enjoy even more. Thank you.

Great pics Mist! Looked a lot cooler then Florida would have been!

Wow what an awesome pic! Fiddlebacks & escargot anyone? Good eye spotting that well camouflaged copperhead.

Love it! Thanks for sharing.

Not 100%, we don't get them in Colorado, but I think that shelf fungus with the Kephart on it, the reddish one, might be Ganoderma species. Also known as Reishi. A sought after medicinal.

Thanks man, I'm glad you enjoy them!

Thanks Phillip. Yeah, she's gonna be taller than her mom, lol. We saw some big ones, next time Alayna and I will make a bigger one.

Thank you very much. I find the older I get, the more I want to not miss...

Thanks Adam! Yeah, and it was still 90F and 95% humidity during the day before the storms lol

Thanks Anthony! Yeah, he definitely blended in well.

Great trip. Looked like a really fun time. Love the pro-kep & GB combo. That ones hard to beat. Thanks for sharing.

Looks like a great trip. That is some seriously beautiful country. Gorgeous pictures all around. The close up pic of the kephart on the rock is stunning and the snake pic is spooky.

Great post!!!

It really was Bob. Yeah, they make a great team. I like having the axe for splitting, but when it comes to making the finer kindling and tinder, I still much prefer batonning.

Great post!!!

Thanks Todd! It really is beautiful up there, I want to move up that way later if possible.

Thanks for the pics. Nice copperhead!
I have hiked all over the US, and I still believe nothing compares to the Tri-State area around east TN.

Thanks Kermit! He, I am guessing here looking at the size and the tail length, seemed content. So I just took a few photos and studied it for a few minutes, then went on and left him in peace. I have yet to hike the far west or the north east, but if I were confined to nothing but the East Appalachian Temperate Rain Forest, I'd have no complaints :)

Thanks for sharing the pics! I think I might recognize some of those spots (though, admittedly, there are plenty of similar-looking areas within the GSMNP.

Thanks for sharing Mist. Glad you were able to get away with the family for a little bit.

It looks like you and your family enjoyed your trip to the Smokies! Thanks for posting up your photos along with comments to share with us here on the sub-forum.

Some of your previous posts here on BF have inspired me to try and look out for unusual or interesting visual sights to document with my iPhone while out in the woods hiking and or Mtn. Biking.

I'll also add that your reviews on the stainless Mid-Tech Kephart/Duke models have also influenced me to want to go ahead and seek out the Custom Shop versions to complement some of my other 01/A2 carbon steel Fiddlebacks.

It looks like a good time. Here's an off-topic question: what cheese is that? :D

It really was, and lol, that is Cabot tomato and basil.

Thank you, glad you enjoyed them. You may, these were all within ten miles of Gatlinburg this trip, but yes, lots of similar views there.

Thanks Preston, and yeah we definitely needed a little time together away from things. It was too short a stay lol.

Lol, it's a self feeding hobby for me. Every time I go out looking for some things, I always find others I didn't even know I was looking for until I found them.

I love Andy's thoughts on knife design and many of his profiles, and CPM S35VN steel done properly is so far my favorite steel for my uses. Combining the two is simply awesome. I was wishing I had snagged either of a few custom shop Kepharts I have seen in the sales threads when I was in the mountains there. I really like how the handle scales on yours pop in the greenery there.
