Explosion at Newt Livesay's

I just got off the phone with Joda. A few nights back an air compressor outside of Newt's shop decided to explode. Luckily, no one was in the shop at the time. The compressor, which hit the wall of the shop, doing some damage inside, travelled about 200 ft before it stopped. They're working right now to get the new compressor hooked up so they can get back to work. I'm waiting for an NRGS-Ex, so I'll just have to be a little more patient.

Just wanted everyone to know, in case some others have orders in. Joda said they with be making every effort to get caught up as quickly as possible.

Thank goodness no one was hurt. Too many good people have been leaving us recently.

Thanks for that, Codeman. Glad to hear that no one was injured.

Your darn right it's great no one was hurt. Something like that could have been disastrous. I am sure everyone will understand a little delay.

Keith.

I hope it didn't land on Sandbar #13

Seriously, I'm glad no one is hurt.
It is amazing how much power can be in mundane things like compressed air or even water...
Ebbtide out.

it's air's compressibility that makes it dangerous. pressurizing an air tank to (say) 100 psi takes a lot more energy than compressing water to 100 psi (same size tank). if the tank ruptures, this energy gets released.

Good reasons to:
1. install the compressor bottle OUTSIDE as Newt had... and
2. have the bottles inspected once in a while for corrosion.

Glad to hear everybody is OK. Equipment, even expensive equipment is cheap & replacable compared to an injury.

I am glad too that no one was hurt. That goes to show that making knives.. er any thing in shops really isn't jsut a matter of turning on the equipment and grinding away. All sorts of things could have happenned. Luckily this was probably the ebst thing that could have happenned. Good Luck to Newt and his employees to getting up and running safely again.
