I like the looks of this knife. Watched a few vids. Is it easy to open one-handed with the index finger? It looks like the smaller knife is much harder to open than the larger knife, since there is less of the extended tang on the small knife. Why would they do that? Anyway, I'm just looking for input from people with experience. thanks.

I had a Burger Exkelibur (handmade). I can't say much bad about it. The opening method is excellent. The pivot system that Trevor uses is really cool as well. What pushed is out of my rotation & eventually out of my small collection is that IMO a Sebenza is a much better knife than the Exkelibur. BUild Quality, Fit & Finish, materials... everything is better done on my other knives. The burger is "neat" but I want more outta my knives.

I like the knife a lot. I don't really ever carry it though. It's super light and is put together nicely. It also has a very shallow hollow grind and the hand rubbed blade looks great

I have both versions (G10 and rustic bog oak handles). A nice, simple and utilitarian design.

I like them quite a bit. They are an interesting take on one-hand opening for sure!

I start the opening with my thumb and finish with my index finger.

They have come out with another version with maple burl handle. There is a thread about it in the Boker forum.

The opening jimping tore my hand up when I reached into my pocket for change or my flat wallet that I carry in my RFP with my knives. Especially with tip down configuration. I gifted it to my brother.

I assume you' re talking about the Böker Plus Exskelibur and not the custom ones by Mike Skellern and Fred Burger.
I own the larger one(Exskelibur 1) with G10 scales and I really love it. Once you master the technique of opening it with your index finger it' s atleast as fast as any flipper I own.
The jimping is kind of sharp but on the upside it does help with the traction, which is rather low on the knife.
For the price I really can' t complain about the overall quality. It' s on the same level as other high-value knives like the Tenacious or Byrd line for example.

Jimping is sharp. It comes as a tip down carry, but if you switch the clip for tip up the jimping is away from the hand, facing the outside of the pocket ( for right handers). I have the exskelimoor, and its a very light, elegant and good looking knife. Opening it is entertaining.

Yes, the smaller version doesn't have the same "squared-off" thumb/finger ridge as the larger versions. It has a nail nick instead.

Skywalker, Your pic in the EDC pic thread is what got me looking at this knife again. Love the look, just can't decide if it's for me.

I like that there is no stud or nail nick in the larger version. I wish they would have kept the thumb-ridge for the smaller knife, and lost the nail nick. More of a gentleman's knife. Studs, holes, and even nail nicks detract from the aesthetics of a bare blade.

Well the problem with adding the thumb-ridge to the smaller version is that it would make it illegal to carry in Germany. And since Böker is a German company I guess they wanted to have the more EDC-capable knife legal to carry:)
I do agree though, I much prefer the bare blade.

try the boker version (around $30-40) first if your not sure, I've had two of them, there a nice knife and I liked the opening system very well. the burger version is on my "if I ever have the money" list :p

I have the large boker one
got it from a shop here so it wasn't so cheap (like 90$)
I really like it, it's well made, locks well, blade has hand rubbed finish, the 400C is well HT'ed and holds an edge fairly well, resharpening is easy

I would definitively suggest it, just gotta get the small now..
