Back quite a few years ago I did a number of knives that I coated with Gun Kote and at that time I think about the only color you could get was black. It held up very well...especially when it was prepped by heavy bead blasting.
I built this Commander a couple weeks ago since Ohio just got CCW and I wanted a Govt model that was compact and had an external finish that would not rust. I sandblasted the parts, then parkerized them, then overcoated in a matte stainless color Gun Kote. I was surprised to see how many colors were available!
I apply the finish by heating the part to around 150F and then spraying the Gunkote on with an airbrush.....let air dry for 30 min, and then bake at 350F for about 45min.
I post this for two reasons....first...to show off my new creation
, and secondly to show an option to coat your carbon steel blades and make them look like bead blasted stainless.
