Extortionate surcharge

I just recived my BM & NO, but I had to pay £38.35 to Royal Mail before they would release my package. The worst of it was why the charge was so high. They said it was inspection and repacking, now when I opened the box I see that Andy had bubble wraped my knives for saftey.
The Royal Mail had removed the wrap to inspect the knives, and repacked them by wraping them IN NEWSPAPER. THAT COST ME £38.35.
Has any one else had a similar experience?

Archie...you are not alone in your experience...Busse Knives set off alarms all over the world in various customs and inspection environments.

BTW...the newspaper was from me!!! It sounds like they just wanted to charge you extra. I took care of you on the customs form too...sorry it happened...I will try to do something for you to make this whole thing feel a little bit better.

In the mean time, ENJOY your Busse Knives my man!!! Give us an update on how they work in Scotland

Oops, sory for insultig your newspaper Andy :-o .I bet there wouldnt have been any charge if I was trying to get a blender through customs, such is life.

Anyway I hope to take a trip up to the highlands in the next couple of weeks. While there i'll be putting these bad boys to work, choping, slicing & dicing whatever I can get my hands on

Sounds like you´re still lucky.
Here in Germany a knife coming in from the US will be taxed with 16% germany sale tax and 8,5% customs tax. They even tax the shipping and handling!
