It seems it would be a lot more economical than the $70 8 inch plate that is overkill for pocket knives.

I don't think it exists yet. If it did, I'd probably have one too. 
For pocket knives, you could use the EF/EEF Dia-Fold. I do have one of these, and it works great. At this grit, only finishing touches need to be done, so there's not much need for a large hone anyway. :thumbup:
Edit: DMT also has a 4" 'Diamond Whetstone' for the Aligner, in EEF grit. Probably the least expensive option, at ~ $15.
