I recently picked up the kme sharpening system as an upgrade from the triangle sharpmaker and as someone who is new to sharpening I really appreciate how easy it is to use

I currently have 4 diamond stone (140,300,600 and 1500 grit) plus a strop I am looking to get a few more diamonds for it that are progressively finer than the 1500 grit I know there are whet stones but I would like to find diamonds if at all possible to keep thing just a tiny bit simpler (and dryer)

I see that there are much finer diamond stones out there but I cant seem to find any made for the kme so I am wondering if any of you guys have tried finer diamond stones from other brands that will fit the kme with little or preferably no modifications

Thank you

Order a 3000 grit diamond plate from Ken Schwartz. He can cut them to any size. It's a very nice product. Just message him on Facebook.

Also, KME sells the diamond lapping films. The 3 and .5 micron films will put a really nice near mirror finish on an edge and work better than strops imo.

I was looking at those, now forgive me if this is a very beginner question but after I finish using the 1500 grit stone can I jump right to the 3 micron film? Or should I have something in between them to help "bridge the gap"?

Hi, don’t know if this is the right place to post or not but I am a blind guy interested in nice and have been serving this form for a long time. I am trying to find out where I can look at guided know if you’re putting systems in person either manual or electric. I’ve tried stones but don’t feel like they are for me at the moment. I already have the Lansky but would like to try out other ones. Can anyone give tips? Thanks in advance
Tha ks this is the type of thing I am looking for

I'm not sure what grit scale KME uses. After 1500 grit you may want to try using 6 micron, then 3 micron. I like the films because they're convenient, no flattening or maintenance required. I usually just wet them down with a little wd40 to float the swarf and then wipe them clean with a towel when I'm done. Water doesn't work very well to keep them from loading, but wd40 works great.

Cool thanks for the tip on wd40

I just ordered a pack of 3M adhesive backed lapping films with different micron levels for $25 on Amazon I am going to stick them to the back of the diamond stones to see how that works

With the film's that are included after the 1500 stone I can go to the 9m (1,800 grit), 3m (8,000 grit), 1m (14,000) and then .3m (60,000 grit)
