Extracting audio tracks from CDs to WAV files

I'm looking for software that can convert single audio tracks to wav files to be saved on my hard drive for future burning. My old computer had Easy CD Creator on it and that made it easy to do, but I reformatted my computer and when I tried to re-install the creator it said that neither version (I have two) would work with XP. The burner on my new computer came with a version of Nero called Nero Start Smart but that doesn't appear to do it either. Anyone know of a software that does this easily? I'm willing to pay for it as long as I know it's worth paying for, but I'd prefer freeware. Thanks.

ps...If anyone knows of a good audio editor, that'd be good too (or a software that does both).

I use FreeRip myself. As its name suggests it is free and judging by its menus it can save tracks into MP3, WAV and OGG Vorbis format (I only use the MP3 rip option myself). You can enter CD name and have relevant information encoded in MP3 headers which is nice feature (that doesn't help you with WAV ripping but anyway :D ).

I suggest you Google it up and try it out, it doesn't cost a dime.

Thanks, guys--I'll check these out.

Erik--until you mentioned it I didn't even know that. Guess all I use Media Player for is to play CD's. Discovered that even my RealPlayer does it--interesting--I'll have to play around with it.

Thanks for the help, I've been asking bunch of questions recently and getting good responses. I've tried posting on computer forums before but there is a always a real lackluster response if any.
