Hi everyone,

few days ago I had the chance to try the Extrema Ratio Dobermann IV

This knife is big (blade lenght 185mm), robust (blade thickness 6mm), really good on heavy tasks (chopping, batoning), but it's able to perform some precise jobs too. I like the leather sheath. The handle is the usual that ER use for many of his models, enough comfortable for long works.

Thanks again for another fine review.

I've always wondered about ER's handle pattern. Never handled one I am skeptical but of course your own experience and findings I consider. The sheath is gorgeous and the "shifting" retaining button is clever which just adds to its functionality.

+1

The weird handle that they use is a turn-off, but then I've never held one.

Thanks for your comments.

I agree, the handle used for several ER models is someway "weird" to look, but actually is fairly comfortable on the field. :-)

Nice knife.

I think they should make their logo bigger, I can barely see it.

;)

I just received my first order from Xtremeknives dot com, and it's one of these doggies in all black. Wow, this is sheeeeeeaaaaarp! Cuts paper like it was the fluffiest cocaine. I was a bit worried because there are so many counterfeits, but the seller seems to be legit and it completely matches the ones on the maker's own site, including the sheath. My worry was compounded by 2 things: one, there is no foam in the box which according to ultimateknivesandgear dot com is a sign of being bogus, but it's just foam and could have been lost. Two, there is a segment of serration near the choil that does not come standard on this knife; however the seller said they were a special order, and she's listed on the Extrema Ratio dealer page so I really shouldn't worry. The design is flawless but looks are one thing and performance is another. I don't know how I could confirm whether it's real N690 and really that's all that matters, but everything else besides the foam tells me this is authentic.

I can see why people think the ergonomics are weird: they are! It's something I can get used to, and I tried holding it with gloves on and it really shines in that regard.

The printing on the blade is ehhhh whatever. I am definitely going to wear the coating off so who cares.

Satisfied! I can't wait to be attacked by flying ninja hamsters

Cross-posting from my Lionsteel thread...

It came! So did I. Here it is with my other acquisition this week

I was having a hard time committing to the Dobermann and considered selling it for a while but I got back into it and decided to really make it mine by adding a second edge for about 3 inches from the tip back along the top. I used hand sharpeners and it was a workout trying to knock the stock down with tungsten carbide and diamond. So much of a workout that my hand slipped and punched the blade and now my knuckle is being held together with 3 bandaids, 2 feet of first aid tape, and 1 splint. It's a good knife!
