Hi everybody,

I have received a couple days ago from Extrema Ratio this neck-knife, named N.K.1, and I would like to share my thoughts on it with you

The NK1 it’s a small, compact, skeletonized knife. Here you may find the specs:
blade length 40 mm
lenght OA 129 mm
wheigt 55 grams
steel Bohler N690Co, hardened 60HRC
finishing stonewashed (available guncote also)

Well, the advantages of a knife like this it’s clear: you can carry it in a pocket, picked up to your backpack, or at your neck, and you will forgot him until the moment than you need it. For the peoples that perform risky jobs (soldiers, cops ecc.), the other advantage is the conceivability, of course.

My test was performed during a long hike here on Alps. I carried the NK1 for 10 hours without any problems: the sheath it’s safe, the knife doesn’t rattle in it, the weight and the dimensions of the knife are just rights to not hurt you

Obviously, there are not just pros in a knife like this. Generally speaking, the main problem is the handle, which it’s just too short for some long tasks. Anyway, the Extrema Ratio NK1 has a smart design, and handling it it’s safe and not too uncomfortable

Whit the NK1 you may perform a lot of activities: food preparation, carving woods, arranging material for a camp fire. This knife is small and light, but the blade is razor sharp, and the general shape it’s versatile

If you need for more heavy tasks, like cutting a 3,5 cm diameter branch, no problem. Batoning the blade of the NK1 you may cut it easy

More, if you want a knife for long, heavy tasks, you may realize easily an improvised handle, using a piece of wood and the paracord of the sheath

Conclusions: the Extrema Ratio NK1 was a nice surprise for me. It’s light, compact, has a smart design. The sheath it’s well made and it’s possible to carry it at the neck or using the MOLLE system. IMHO you may use it as a EDC, or even for your hiking if you don’t like to carry heavy weight.

Alfredo, a wonderful write-up and great photographs!

Neat neck knife.

Many thanks!

Nice review! Thanks for sharing. How about the details on that sandwich? Looked delicious.

Lovely little knife, looks like it'd be more comfortable for long period of wood working if you paracord wrapped the handle. How much do these cost?

Fantastic review, I was just looking at this on the ER webpage, tempted, I think your review has tipped me!

Nice review Alfredo...but I think that it isn't the proper use for this kind of knife.
Of course anything is possible ... but why use a neck knife for outdoor, when there are better knives for this purpose?
I think that the knives should be used according to the purpose for which they were designed.

I made also a review of this knife, so if you would like to talk about it, I'll be happy to compare our views about neck knives.

Here my review (there's also a video)

The review by the OP was very good (especially as it didn't discuss the knife in a certain setting without knowledge, as someone else might have...).

Sorry I don't understand...if you were you referring to me, meaning that I have no knowledge, I would like to know why you write such a thing without knowing me.
Besides, if you read what I wrote after "nice review Alfonso", I just expressed my opinion; then if someone wants to use a sword to slice an ham instead of a dedicated knife (for example), is free to do so.
What is the purpose of a neck knife is written everywhere, and there are martial artists of world fame that explain and illustrate very well its uses (see, eg, M.Janich).
I do not know why you're so polemical, but I just wanted an exchange of views. ;)

I am interested in what your background from the military/martial arts/self defense with a blade is? Or are all of your opinions in the review regarding the fit of this knife in the settings you mentioned in your review based on second hand info?

I don't write my reviews with second hand info. Never.
If there are uses where I'm not enough able, I ask for help to the people who collaborate at my website. I don't have the self-conceit to know everything, as someone else might have...
I do not have a military background, but I am a practitioner of Filipino Kali. I have the abilitation for the construction, repair and sale of firearms.
I write reviews about knives for some Italian magazines.
I'm graduated in Industrial Chemistry, so I have enough knowledge in steels and polymeric materials.
Do you need other info about me?

Good review. I think the design is very similar to the Benchmade 211 activator / snody sportster. The nk1's shape looks more tactical.

Great review, very interesting knife, I like these smaller fixed blades allot...easier to fondle.

Just picked up a Boker Pry Mini, have the Pry Mate both N690 and are fantastic. This could be my next little one, also N690. One quick question how thick is the handle? If the blade is 0.12" I'm thinking it would over 1/4 (0.25) does anyone know for sure?
