:D When I joined Blade Forums this past Dec., I had never heard of Extrema Ratio knives. $219 latter I have one! How many times has this kind of thing happen to you? I was innocently reading a post when I spotted…Vergil’s statement …
…in the royal marines corps... extrema ratio was the choice if own items were used…
I had to do a little research to find out what this Extrema Ratio was. I found that the knife’s blade steel is N690 cobalt stainless steel (I have to admit I don’t really know what N690…means, but it sounds cool.) It has a new sheath design that allows for 45 degree as well as horizontal and perpendicular adjustable carry positions. AND it looks really cool!:D I discovered that the best price was to be had at Xtreme Knives. Thanks BladeFourms! Ck it out http://store.xtremeknives.com/shrapnel.html Has something like this happen to you? And, I should of asked this before I bought the Extrema Ratio Shrapnel, does any of you have a Extrema Ratio knife and how do you like your knife?

I have 2 folders, the Nemesis and the MPC (Multi Purpose Combat) which are the same except for the blades. I have a BF-1 due to arrive Friday.

The steel is very good, it's by an Austrian company and is more common in European knives. Fox makes some using it, like the Ontario Hossom Retribution folders. Benchmade uses it in the Monocrom (designed by an Austrian :) ).

The Shrapnel is a tempting little fixed blade. It would probably match up well with popular knives like Fallkniven's F1 and RAT Cultery RC3 and RC4.

As bad as the temptation is when reading about some goodlooking piece of equipment, once you start collecting them, the habit becomes ... expensive. :D

I have the Golem F. and I love it! It is rock solid! Anyone who has ever picked this knife up never wants to put it down. It is as well built as any high end knife I have ever handled. They are great blades.

I absolutely love Extrema Ratio knives. Well-balanced, strong, easy to sharpen, very ergonomic and distinctive (for collective purposes). The Col Moshin is probably my all-time favourite knife together with Fällkniven F1 and I just ordered a second one. I also have a Shrapnel which is a fine blade, but the handle is a bit too short for me. I know it is a backup knife, but this limits the usability. Besides that, I don't like the plastic sheath; it is not a 100% fit with the knife (rattles..) and the one-push-retention system does not work well, so I am about to get myself a custom-made kydex sheath. I just compared the US prices with European prices and US prices are up to 25% higher. If anyone is interested in a trade with US knives (albeit only interested in Busse, Fehrman and CR), just contact me.

I really like my ER Shrapnel. It has been a stout thick little fixed blade. I have field dressed a deer and used it around deer camp this year alone. It's a great knife to toss in a back pack and head out to where ever... Good choice for sure!!!

" x-10-I like the handle and 4" blade because it is much easier to use when I trimmed the fat from a brisket soon after taking it out of the box.:D I don't have small hands but I am used to working with the ZT 0139 & Broker CLB. How long have you had your Shrapnel? I just got mine yesterday and the sheath fits perfect plus it is very light. Thanks for your comments and I will watch the sheath to see if it is going to rattle.:([/SIZE]

x-10, I have it only since 3 months, but I believe it was from a pretty old stock together with Dobermann II which is out of production for quite a while. Perhaps they've changed the sheaths. The quality of the blade is second to none, but I find the 'bigger' ERs a way better (Col Moshin, Venom, Dobermanns, Golem). The Praetorian is on the top of my wish-list, but even in Europe it's damn expensive - well over 300 Euros. And then it's hard to choose between that one and a nice Fehrman or a Busse..

N690 is made by Bohler in Austria. It is essentially 440C with minute additions of cobalt and vanadium.

Those minute additions greatly enhance the performance. IMO it ranks about even with VG10 and 154CM in terms of edge retention and ability to take a very keen edge.

ARE U SHURE YOU HAVENT GOT ONE OF THOSE CHINESE-MADE KNOCKOFFS?? i HAVE SEEN TJEM ONLINE, THEY LOOK REAL B U T , THEY RATTLE IN THEIR SHEATH, I HAVE HAD MINE FOR YEARS AND ITS STUCK IN THERE WITH NO SOUNDS JUST AS NEW. JUST WANTED TO SAY THIS SHOULD NOT BE AN ANNOYING PROBLEM WITH THIS FANTASTIC KNIFE!

Hahaha!!! brought back from the grave. I posted about an Extrema Ratio Suppressor a few days ago and not one post. Whats up with that?
I guess no one around here likes them or does'nt care for them.

What is with all the old threads getting resurrected lately? Weird.

I have heard great things about Extrema Ratio but I must say the handle designs, despite reports, don't LOOK ergonomic. I will need to handle one to see for myself but doubt I will get much opportunity, those that know 'em seem to love 'em but that doesn't seem to be a big group.

I’ve owned a BF1TT Wardog for a couple of years now. Thought it looked a bit cheap and nasty when it first arrived but it’s taken a lot of knocks without showing any real signs of wear. My only complaint would be that it’s difficult to open one-handed and even more of a pain if you’ve got work gloves on.
