I unintentionally discovered a Blade shop in downtown Geneve and they happened to have a load of Extrema Ratio's in stock. I handled the Nemesis folder and the Shrapnel fixed. Well, my doubts about the grip geometry of these products have been dispelled. They are great to handle and are built 'Soldier Proof'. The Nemesis grip seems too long for the blade until you realise that it's a purpose built knife that marries a sharpened spike to a beefy, one-size fits all handle that must be great when handled with gloves.
I couldn't shave hair with the Nemesis but I now realise it's not that kind of a blade. I can see cable being cut, barrels and boxes being breeched and rope cut with it. The Shrapnel was surprisingly compact and the grip is absolutely the smalles on a tactical that I've ever seen. I wanted to compare the Shrapnel to the Trident/Crusader TCFM XL and the comparison is apt unless you compare weights. The Shrapnel is noticeably lighter.I'm guessing it's not full tang.
I also like that the Nemesis could be pressed into heavy duty service, thanks to a safety plunge-lock on the blade.
Were it not for the Trident/Crusader TCFM XL, the Shrapnel would have to be the best in its class.

Thanks for writing that. I have been curious how ER knives feels in hand. The Trident is a custom knife. I would like to handle some ER knives, just out of curiosity.

ER makes some pretty badass looking kukri style machetes that were reviewed in tactil knives a couple of years back, I would love to try one out.

I've recently acquired a Fulcrum IID folder, and I find the handle to be comfortable in my large-ish hands, but a tad slippery.

Trident knives have beter ergos than ER, they have also better cutting power due the steel and heat treating and the general built is stronger. For me Trident knives all the way !

I'd love to get ahold of the Shrapnel, looks like a tough little fixed blade.

The Nemesis is a folding trench spike. Very cool, and when the zombies come, thats the one you want. :D The plain edge knives however, seemed to me to have a design flaw, the thumbstud was to low, and you had to remove it to sharpen the entire blade. The serrated ones seem to work better for those "folding crowbars", first knives I ever preferred with combo edge.

Bought the Nemesis a few weeks ago - despite having custom framelocks, the Nemesis is the only folder with a lock I will trust to function under hard use. Flipside is lack of ergonomics and lack of user-friendliness (harder to open and close than typical folders).

I have the Nemesis folder, the Col. Moshin and the KH kukri. All are awesome, but the fixed blades are the best. Not that there's anything wrong with the Nemesis, but it's too big to fit in a pocket.

How about trying one of the smaller "Classic Folders" from ER?

Bought one nearly 6 months ago and i'm quite happy with this decission - works great as an EDC: Strong enough for nearly everything, good handle, "low" clip, good steel. What else? Secure look due to a "LAWKS-like" switch on the right side.

Need pics?

I'm with matzehaffke upstairs (thanks for the link to the shots too!) in trying to find out about more about the "civilian/EDC" versions of their folders. The impressions/reviews about them have been few and far between. Just how secure or strong are the LAWKS-type lock?

EDIT: Hey! Wow, I just broke the 1,000 post-mark! May the cuttlery gods smile on me and give me a new EDC! :P
