Hey everyone, had a thought I would like to run by you. It is very clear that we all love knives, and find them to be a close companion as we venture through our days. Whether we use them at work or at play, or simply buy them just to respect their engineering or craftsmanship, our knives become a part of who we are.
As we all sit here reading this in different walks of life, some of us dream of owning certain knives, and others easily afford them. Some sit very content with their single folder or slippie, while others have plenty to chose from as they walk out their door in the morning. Some love their wally world CRKT or Gerber, yet wonder what it would be like to have a truly well built knife.
Well, as my wife and I watch the Extreme Makeover faithfully, I couldn't help but think of the kindness that was shown to me on this forum. I have the bug bad, when it comes to my love of knives, but my funds do not always support my wishes. I have even put one of my guns on consignment to help save for that next purchase. I have been blessed though, and am very grateful for the things that I do have.
My point in all of this is that I would like to start an Extreme Knife Makeover for those that may be less fortunate than some of us.
I would like to have applicants apply to the forum so that we can all choose who to pick for a given month, and then I will contact this person by phone to verify that they are not some 7 yr. old trying to get some knives. I would like to set a minimum age of 25 to apply.
Should a person be picked, we would accuire their address, and all that feel lead to do so, would either pick a knife from their personal collection or purchase a knife, and send it to the chosen person. Thus, taking someone from knife poverty to knife riches.
Example: Joe has a family, but due to life circumstances, he is unable to treat himself to a new knife. He has had a trusted Buck for many a years, but visits Knife Forums regularly to read and dream.
We here about Joe, and one person sends him a Kershaw Chive, another a Boker Trance, another a Benchmade Griptilian, another a SOG, another a Case, and so on and so on..... By the end of it, this person could be sitting on twenty or so new knives over night. And some may even get a diamond in the rough, by those feeling really lead to give.
Either way, we all know that we would love to go to the mailbox on any given month and have a waterfall of knives coming our way.
How do we pick someone? Good question! It will take us all to make something like this work, but the joy it could bring to someone would be worth it. With a new year upon us, we could do one a month.
Let me know who is on board, and can help with the planning.
Thanks and Merry CHRISTmas!
