Step 1 for me was to disassemble the blade and clean the G10 scales...

Mr. Clean worked like a dream!

Then I boiled water and added the dye...

And here is the results of that:

Very nice job. I appreciate the picturtorial. I alway like seeing what colors look like on this grey g10...seems like it's a hard G10 to take a deep color.

I love the red!

Looks great!

I hate it when people dye their Gray G10 Para 2s, because it is one of my favorite knives in stock form.
But that looks excellent.

I'm considering to dye red my black Tenacious (I only customize inexpensive blades, a Paramilitary would almost be a safe queen to me :) ). Do you think that the black scales will take a good color or they're just too dark?
Your Para2 looks great, anyway!

Very nice looking!

I can't believe you got the dye to hold. I tried red on mine and it just barely got the edges. The only dye that it seemed to hold was blue/green and I already had the blue one so I didn't want another (I cleaned it thoroughly before each time). I really wanted it to dye lime green, but just couldn't get anything other than an ugly sea-foam green to stick. When I tried Red, I ended up with a spotty pink.

What was your process (if you don't mind my asking). I'm curious as to if I could have left it in there longer (or left the water hotter) and achieved any other results.

Sorry man - can't go lighter, only darker. Red on black will almost not be visible at all (in my experience).

Looks nice. I too would be interested in how the stonewash was done. Did you also do the liners? Also, is this type of dye fast? Do you ever get any color leakage? I wouldn't like doing this if it's gonna stain my clothes.

I boiled the water, then let it sit for a couple minutes, then i added half a pack of dye. next i set the scales in the dye for 45ish minutes with the stove on the lowest setting.

I used this video to find out how to stonewash:

thanks all for the comments!! :D

Very good looking mod, I would be interested to know how well the red dye holds up keep us updated!

It holds up pretty damn well in my experience. I dyed my para 2, Tenacious and military (You guys know what they look like by now so I won't post a pic) And so far the dye hasn't faded at all. It's tough stuff.

The color will rub off a bit on your clothes at first, but after you get the excess dye off from pulling out/putting it in your pocket, you won't get the color on your pockets anymore. I just checked my pocket and I can't see any red.

Man love that. I got a para2 in 20cp also and LOVE THAT COLOR you dyed yours too. I am going to have to do this to mine. Dont think I have the stuff needed to stone wash mine and im afraid Id jack it up. AWESOME.

OP, that is a great looking knife!

If dyeing G10 is anything like dyeing Magpul polymer accessories, it will hold up great. The dye actually impregnates into the polymer or G10 so it virtually unaffected by scuffs, gouges, smudges and scratches. It won't chip like paint or any or coating.

I don't know if it'd work. But if you wanted to go lighter, you could try to bleach the darker color off first, then dye it. No idea if bleach works on G10 :-P

Wow, nice job! I've seen people dye their scales, but the stone washing really takes it to another level.
