I was just slightly bored, so, I wanted to see how many 119 Specials would fit into a single 119 box, because those boxes seem so much larger than the actual knife and sheath inside. Three 119s will fit in a 119 box, but, it slightly bulges the end of the box that contains two pommels:

If you'll look closely at the near-left corner of the opened box, you'll see that it is becoming slightly unglued.

Sorry if I've dropped the jaws of those that like keeping their boxes as pristine as their knives, but, well, DON'T DO THIS AT HOME! ;) (I care about my Buck knives, don't get me wrong, it's just that I'm not going to sell them, so, keeping the boxes all nice and pretty seems kinda useless.)

Does anyone know why some Buck boxes are so much larger than the knife contained inside? There seems to be a lot of room for the knife to bump and bounce around.

I believe on the yellow boxes you can open both ends and then fold the box flat.

Any of the yellow ones.. Probably a one box fits most kind of thing. Saves bucks...

Yes, you're right. I believe that Joe Houser and others in the forum have recommended that, too.

However, once the knives have been taken from their boxes, it's kinda tough getting them back into the box that they really originally came in. I have a couple of Idaho-stamped 119s that came in 11/94-stamped boxes, and I have a total of five Idaho-stamped 119s. Which two of those five should go into the 11/94 boxes, meaning that they were produced in El Cajon, but, are "wearing" the Idaho blade stamp...? ;)

I can't tell the difference....

LOL... "Saves bucks..." Good one!

You're probably right about the same box being used for several different models of knives. Making boxes to fit each size and variety of knife that Buck manufactures, well, they'd need a box factory next to the knife factory! ;)

P.S. Part of the reason that I tried to fit three 119s into a single 119 box was for packing purposes. I've tried laying my 119s out in a open-topped sports-duffle bag, alternating the pommels and tips so that none of the pommels would knock together, scratching the polished aluminum, but, a bump in the road would throw them all together into a jumble. So, packing multiple knives into boxes would help to keep the knives in better shape versus packing them separately and loose.

If I have to bug-out for any reason, I want to pack everything up as well as possible, and as tight as possible, so that it takes less space. One way or another, all those extra empty Buck boxes ain't going with me! ;)

The delimas of a knife collector.

We need an EASY button.

I have some of that thin packaging foam that you can lay one knive on, make a couple of rolls, lay another one on, make a couple of rolls, and so on, till you have a bundle. Tape it with the 2 inch book tape. Makes a nice tight bundle. Bubble wrap takes up too much room.

Ah, well, I don't call myself a knife collector. I consider myself a knife investor. Whenever I have the extra cash around, I go shopping and invest in a knife. It seems somehow safer than playing the stock market. ;)
