so before entering the world of custom knives this was my last purchased production knife and i recently had it out on a 4 day beach camping trip. chopping wood, shredding coconuts, cleaning fish it was a solid beast. i caught some flack on other forums saying they arent that great and overpriced. the blade is n690 and appears to just be awesome stuff. i was going to replace it w a custom tracker/tracer (the tops style ) style 5" custom but now may hold off. i paid $270 through xtremeknives after a military discount. it seems like a really legit knife why do so many ppl dislike ER??

No idea, my local gun shop has a ER Bayonet. It seems overly priced, but it has me curious. Glad to hear at least something about the brand. Pix of you using it camping?

Nice!! I like them i think they've got style although i've never had or held one personally. Although i would like to aquire an ER knife one day.
I've been eying a suppressor lately myself.

For production knives, they tend to be on the expensive end for the materials that go into them. For example, what you paid for that fulcrum is enough to get a ZT-9 bayonet at street price, and that comes with a superior warranty from Kershaw/ZT, as opposed to dealing with ER. There are many more similarly or lesser priced offerings from ESEE, Bark River, and custom/midtech makers that also hold more value. As for folders, most of the companies/custom/midtechs here have them beat in every aspect, whether it's sharpness, overbuilt durability, or value.

Others have also poked fun at ER's marketing and designs, which is of a very tactical nature. In fact I remember an advertising pitch for one of their ER Harpoon models which anonymously had a Navy SEAL endorse the knife and say he would take it to a shark fight. Dark Ops took it to an even further level, but I won't go there.

i did check alot of those guys out, a few things that made me go w the fulcrum was i specifically wanted 7" and i did some good research for the price and material. i was looking at Bark bravo2 but i also needed something that had no shine and i didnt want to deal w having a finish put on. and its the full size fulcrum but not the bayonet. and i did a good amount of research on the n690. i know a few guys that deployed w ER as well and loved them. i do wish i had made it on this forum prior i certainly wouldve gone custom. i may use it as a trade or sell it for a good full size custom in the future. ive gotten rid of a majority of my productions. likely the only ones ill hold onto are my dive knives and older issued knives that i have some connection to and a few high end microtechs thatll likely be collectors one day. i was going to sell my makora II and my wife talked me out of it just because it took forever to actually find a legit one.

sorry no pix of it in use. i can tell you the center is towards the blade and i cut through pine like it was butter and it peeled and husked full grown and young coconuts like they were grapes. it also comes standard w a phenominal sheath and i love the handle material. ill put up more info as i really break it in. its going to be used around alot of salt water environments so well see how she stands up.

and dark ops is a totally different company arent they? i know the designs are similar, a little more on the cartoony side almost and i dont believe they put as much into their material and building as well.

They are great knives, but the prices are a bit high for what you are getting. for the price you should be getting titanium in there somewhere... I picked up a MF2 from xtremeknives a couple of weeks ago. I just noticed the screws that hold in the pocket clip are stripped.... I was quite upset that this happened to this knife. I emailed Nancy and she is going to replace it. I have been having some terrible luck with the last few knives I've bought...

They do have some nice designs. I was entertaining a Col Moschin, but figured that there were other knives I wanted more and those cost way less. I used to like coated blades, but now I'm leaning more towards satin/stonewashed blades (hate beadblasts though, those belong on guns, not knives).

I have a Makora II, made in August 2009.

Dark Ops was started by Frank Miller, who used to be a distributor for ER.

I haven't seen much but respect for ER knives here on the forums. They don't seem to be very well known/widely owned but they seem to be respected for making a well designed and built product.

I've never held one but to me the handle designs always looked odd and uncomfortable, though owners have said they are great.

I have no problem with ER quality, but you realize that you just paid $270 for a bayonet?

its not the bayonet model, and im learning quickly. id have gotten myself a custom if id have realized how within my price range they are

I have no problem with ER knives. The Shrapnel is one of the best fixed blade EDC's that money can buy.

^ +1 to that. i think i see one of those in the distant future. i wish i could find a TFDE, but those are next to impossible to get.
