Been working on this one for few days now. The reason I'm calling this extremely old is since there's nothing new that was used for material in the construction of this knife. The ring is made from welding rod but I plan on trying to make some wire out of the wagon wheel wrought iron to replace it to match the other fittings. The blade is 3 1/2" made from a very old shear steel saw blade and the osic, who knows how old that is. Total length on this one is 8 3/4"....

Awww... thats a cute knife. The swivel bail (is that whats its called ? ) is a nice touch. What kinda steel is welding rod ? Jason.

Jason, I have no idea????? I still haven't gotten around to even trying the WI wire yet but I'm still planning on doing it or at least giving it an attempt.. Wrought iron is a whole bunch different than forging steel. It tends to seperate very easy. The swivel bail (is that whats its called ? ) Guess as good a name as any I've heard so far. I call it a ring nut, its something I've been using for making my knives for a couple years now. Each one is a one of a kind, just like the knives. My knives can also be used as Christmas ornaments this time of year. :D :o :D :o :D

That is a beautiful knife. I like the carving on the handle, and the matching guard, and the blade has a very nice flow to it.

Raymond, That's a handy-looking little fella.

Mirroring the groove pattern of the iron ferrule in a different material at the other end of the handle really ties the handle together. It also integrages the handle into the blade visually with clean simple elegance (one of my favorite things to see in a knife design :) ).

Hi Raymond:
Just curious . Do you forge this steel or do you do stock removal. I have a friend who has offered me a very large saw blade from a saw mill. I am going to go see it to see if it has this type of pattern in it. Thanks,.

Marcel

Marcel, All my blades are hand forged but that shouldn't make any difference as far as there being a pattern in the steel. Its shear steel or something else and the more looking I've done for the shear steel something else is way out in front. Other than my by chance piece of original shear steel thats the only I've run across so far. Good luck!
