Greetings to All,

This is my first post and I am a little confused (those are 2 seperate issues for me, I know) about the Eye brand production knives. I read somewhere that Eye brand, Bulldog, Buck Creek, Hen&Rooster, etc. are all made in the same factory. Does this mean that the blade and snap quality are the same and the name is the only difference? I am referring to their carbon steel bladed knives only. If that is so, why are prices so varied between knife lines? If there are differences in quality, could someone tell me what they are? I would appreciate any information. Thanks.

All the Best,
John

P.S. -- The main reason I am asking is that I am in the market for a working pocket knife and I am looking real hard at the German makers like Eye brand and Boker. Thanks again.

I really like my Eye Brand. Lots more snap than the Hen & Rooster. This is observation is based upon only one of each brand.

Welcome abord thacket!

Got a Eye Brand Smooth Bone Carbon Steel MiniTrapper in my pocket as we speak.

Love it. Well built, reasonably priced, gets super sharp...great EDC.

And like gbaker said...the thing snaps like a bear trap.

Have had several Eye Brand knives over the years, and loved them. Recently brought a large stock man, but am disappointed. After a months use, two blades have side to side slack.

They are all made by Olbertz (pretty soon all knives will be made by Olbertz:D).

Quality wise, they do vary a little, the Eye Brands usually have the best fit and finish, while Buck Creek seems to be the poorest of the brands. Patterns vary also with the brands, Eye Brand and Bulldog offer more patterns, and blade combinations:).

As for the variation in cost, that up to the importers. Usually they go to a contractor like Olbertz, and say I need 1700 Stockman, and I need to pay $ X dollars for them. Olbertz(and other factories) will up or lower the quality based on what the importer is willing to spend.

You might also look at Henckels.

:).

+1 for Eye Brand aka Carl Schlieper German Eye Brand.

Have owned about 10 of them in various patterns/finishes and they've always had a great snap. And have been really well put together.

I've had a couple of toothpicks, the medium and large stockman, the muskrat - which was especially nice - and a couple of copperheads.

Ended up trading or selling all except for a really stunning MOP copperhead and a stag muskrat. (BTW they are very generous with the stag.)

Definitely highly recommended.
