Eye brand Eye Brand™ "Big Boy" Sodbuster with Wood Handle

Eye Brand sodbusters are good knives. The fit and finish is not quite on par with some of the others like Case, but the blades are better. They usually come with a good full flat grind and a very thin edge, which makes them good cutters. They don't usually come shaving sharp out of the box, but that is easily remedied. The use a decent carbon steel, probably 1070, 1080, or 1095.

The Eye Brand Sods are pretty good knives and I do like the super thin edge. I've had a couple other Eyes from the 80s' (stockman/trapper) that I really liked but they just didn't hold an edge very long. Maybe I got a couple duds, cause Eye Brand has always had a great rep? Where they made today?

Going dollar for dollar against a similarly sized Opinel, I'd opt for the Opinel instead. YMMV.

There aren't many knives that I would NOT say that about. Opinels are the best deals- "bang for the buck"- in the knife industry. However, as the OP is looking at an eye brand sodbuster, this doesn't help any. My own opinion is- go for it,
give it a whirl, it is inexpensive enough that it won't hurt in the event that you don't like it.
