Eye Brand knives

I bought a Eye Brand Sodbuster a year or so ago. Not up to Case or Queen standards but I would consider it acceptable. The carbon steel blade is easy to sharpen as it is quite thin and holds an excellent edge. I bought a Congress Pen Knife in Stag and Yellow Composition and both are very well made. I like the Yellow handle Congress better as the handles look like old Ivory. Both needed to be sharpened and both were easy to sharpen. They were carbon steel. Good knives.

As you may already know that Eye brand has hammer forged blades. They consider this to be something that they are very proud of. The consensus seems to be that Boker and definitely Case has better FF than the Eye. Some people say that their soddies are really good.

God Bless

Of the eye brands I have owned and handled, the fit and finish seems to be above boker though less consistent than Case. If you can handle first, you are sure to get a great knife. Even if you take your chances online, they are still quite good.

i've used this 2 blade Sodbuster a lot. i REALLY like it. sharpens and edge holds very well; saw blade is a good fast cutter. for woodsy/gardening type stuff, this is a great knife.

started using these knives in 70s.not the slick lookers as much as case but great users.skinned 3 mule deer with a folding hunter& it would still shave hair.collected large bunch in 80&90.s these knives were made for hard use and really were enduring.some history on the brand;were 1st brought into this country in1932 or so by forrest cruse in austin tx. carl schlieper was the founder in 1800s.made many tools besides knives, razors,& sissors.they had large exports to usa ,s. africa, & australia .peter schlieper is the last of the bunch to date.mark cruse is a friend of myself and still is jobbing eyes to wholesalers along with other brands.he told me that the trip hammer and tempering was 20% of knife costs at one time.some of the early eyes were totally mirror polished.i,ve seen some that even had a mirror polish on the inside of springs within the frame.
