Well, I think I finally found out why the eylets weren't rolling very well on the eyelet press from kit knives. If you look at the eylets, you'll notice that the part of the eyelet that is supposed to roll--to flare out-- is actually a little flared in. I don't know why this is, but it explains a lot. Because of this (depending on minute angle changes I guess), some of the eylet would fold over onto itself before flaring out. So, what I did was to take a tapered spike and slightly flare out the part of the eyelet that was flared in (after putting the eyelet through the kydex---after you partly flare out the tip it won't go into the kydex). Now, just about perfect rolls every time. And, thanks to Darrel, the top die is not scarring the eylets (and the bottom surface is less affected too).
I hope this makes sense. Anyway, it looks like the eylets were to blame for the poor rolls.
