how long does an Eze-Lap pocket sharpener last? I would like to get a 1x3 fine or superfine, but not if they don't last as long as a stne.

I have an EzLap 1x6 fine going on 10 years old - puts a nice polish on an edge.

I have a model L that I cut off most of the red plastic handle so it fits in my wallets zip compartment. Its been carried and used for about 15 years now, still good. Also ha ve one of those little ones that look like a short pen. It's about 20 years old, still sharpens my pocket knives well.

So you think a #26F or #26SF should last as long as a real stone? What about rust, I'm in NE Ontario?

A steel based diamond home will outlast any natural stone. The stones will dish in after a while, they break if they get dropped or knocked off a table, and they're heavy.

My Eze-laps have survived years of canoe trips, sailing on the Chesapeake bay, which is saltwater, and I've used water on them to hone, and then dipped it in a glass of water and wiped it off with a paper napkin to clean it. To this day they are fine, and still working fine. It's all I ever use to sharpen my knives, those two small pocket hones.

Besides, for $6.50, are you going to go broke buying a new one after 10 or 15 years? If they wear out, a new one is cheap. Go for it and don't over obsess about it.

I was hoping someone would say that. Thanks.

My pal has a pocket sized one he bought at a yard sale 20 years ago, I think he said.

Still works for him.
