I haven't seen many mods for the Ezesharp system so I hope this isn't a dup'd idea. Sorry some of the pics are a little blurry, I suck with a camera even after all the tips I've gotten.
I bought an Ezesharp a while back. Works great on long knives but not so good on folders and short knives. So I bought an Edgepro and it is awesome. Unfortunately the Edgepro doesn't do so good on longer knives. So I decided to mod my Ezesharp to be basically an overgrown Edgepro.
I took off the top steel plate of the blade clamp and left the bottom one in place. I cut a piece of wood and bolted it in place of the top steel plate. Then I cut a cat litter bucket and put a slot in it to make an adjustable fence for the blade spine to rest on.
I wrapped some duct tape around the wood to make oil/water cleanup a breeze.
At Ikea they sell these cheep knife magnet bars. If you take them apart there's about a dozen rare earth bar magnets. I took two of them out, dremeled slots, and JB welded them in place to assist in holding the knife in place.
Here's a shot with the Ezesharp holders and a Arkansas stone.
I like the Edgepro stones much more than natural stones and I like that they use water instead of oil. Problem is that the rod on the Edgepro stones isn't long enough to utilize the stone on the Ezesharp. So I took the rod and went to the hardware store and found a piece of brass stock that has an inside diameter that fits perfectly to the outside diameter of the Edgepro rod. This extension allows me to use all of my Edgepro stones and tapes on the Ezesharp.
