Fällkniven Sheaths What do you suggest; Leather or Kydex?

I´m about an inch away of buying an A1, F1 and possibly a WM1. What i can´t reeally deecide on is the sheath material I´m tending towards tactical Kydex for the F1 and WW1, but their leather sheaths also seem very nicew. For backpacking maybe the leatherwould be better becousev they dangle a little lower and not get in the way with the Rucksack. But for everyday carry kydex might me better.
What do you think?

I am glad you posted this topic. I also am going to buy an F-1, but cant decide which sheath to get. to be honest with you I would prefer to have a sheath that allows for a more low profile carry than either of the factory sheaths offers. I may get a custom kydex sheath built. I still cant decide whether to order one with leather or kydex and would love to get some opinions on both.

I usually like kydex as a rule but Fallkniven leather sheathes are really nice.I don't know what your finances are like, but kydex and concealex aren't too expensive and if you have acess to some basic tools you can make your own kydex/concealex sheath.I started making sheathes for my blades recently and it is very satisfying to make a sheath that is configured for your own personal carry style.Anyone who has thought of making their own kydex should check out a thread in the shop talk forum from December 1999 called "I need kydex help please" started by Bruce Bump you should be able to find it if you search. The kydex experts cover making a sheath from start to finish and man was it helpful.Using their techniques I was able to make a really nice concealment sheath for my Livesay company knife first try.If you decide not to make your own kydex, you will probably be happy with the leather. They are constructed very well.

I currently have the F1 leather open carry sheath and I have to say that it is very nicely done. Actually much better than I expected. It's very convenient and you should have any problems with it unless move around alot while carrying it. I backpack off-trail sometimes and I worry that the knife might fall out, or worse. It's only because of that reason that I'm considering getting a kydex sheath made for it. Otherwise it is a very decent sheath.

I have an F1 with the leather cover sheath that's well enough made but makes it a bit bulky. Also an S1 with the open sheath on a dangling loop that has a nice way to secure the knife with a notch inside the sheath.

I have 2 sheaths with my model F1 knives: one leather with flap and another Kydex. Both are designed for low belt carry and not suitable for concealed one.
I would suggest another leather model from Fallkniven, please search their web site on www.fallkniven.com or you can order custom Kydex sheath here:

I have photos but something wrong is with the server and they aren't visible.

Spark, what the matters?

Griffon...

Do dealers sell the leather sheaths separately? This is the first time I've heard of it. Do you know which ones sell the leather sheaths separately.

Matt...

I have found that virtually all belt sheaths in one way or another interfere with backpacking packs (to a lesser degree for rucksacks w/out belts). Kydex sheaths especially make carrying a backpack, where most of the weight is in the waste belt, uncomfortable, and the knife itself often inaccessible. Whenever I go backpacking, I usually strap my fixed blade to the side of the pack so I can get at it easily. In terms of the F1 sheaths, I have found the dangling leather sheath to be one of the least intrusive on my pants' belt when carrying a pack with a waste belt. The only thing I worry about it is when I go off trail, and the knife/sheath ends up swinging around alot, I'm afraid the knife will fall out some how.

I have the covered flap sheath, and the dangler sheath. I like the dangler since you can sit down and not have it ride up on you. A kydex dangler would be IDEAL (hint, hint all you concealex/kydex sheath makers)

My brother in law had Mike Sastre of River City Sheaths make him a concealex IWB for his WM1: VERY slim, and comfortable to wear. The WM1 is a nice little knife.

The Fallkniven line is a lot of knife for the $ IMHO ---> great choice!

If you'd asked me yesterday, I'd've said "of course, anything else would be stupid!". But I made "an experiment" today, and went not to my usual place, but one of those with usually a good selection:

"I'd like a WM1 leather sheath, please."
"What, you didn't get one with the knife?"
"Of course I got a sheath with it, but a kydex one!"
"?"
"So, can you sell me a leather sheath? I see you have them."
"... I'll have to go ask about this ...
...
... No, we don't split the content in the boxes."

So; They lost the sale of a sheath and when someone comes in and asks for a WM1 with a kydex sheath, they'll only sell it as an extra. Either customers will go somewhere else or later on discover they've paid more than they needed to. If it had been my shop, I'd sold the sheath and put one of the bunch of kydex sheaths in the box and marked it "k" instead of "l".

They clearly don't get it. The price list very clearly lists all knives with each of the sheaths and all sheaths separately.
Anyone in or near Stockholm wanting recommendations on where to and where not to shop can write to me.

All the sheath options are available seperately as extra sheaths. This includes Kydex for all models including Fallkniven's new kydex neck sheath for the WM1 as well as all the leather and cordura sheaths.

If anyone is having trouble getting a seperate sheath please contact LagaNet at info@laganetlimited.com and I will make sure you get one. We are the Canadian distributors for Fallkniven and have all models in stock.

Thanks to all of you.
I will buy an A1 today when I get off work with Kydex and later that month an F1 with a flapless leather dangler sheath and a kydex option.

Thanks. Matt from Munich
