Hi guys & gals,

I was on search of some interessting designs on pocket knives some time ago. So I decided to look around and I found a knifepattern that is made by some german makers (Friedrich Hartkopf, Hubertus, Richartz etc). It´s the Picknickmesser - Picknickknife :) It has hornscales nickelsilver bolsters and the blade is made of 1.4034 stainless steel as well as the fork blade (with caplifter).

Here are some pics....

the fork

The knife can be taken apart in two pieces ... to have the fork and the blade for a meal

This is the mechanism how it works - when the knife should be taken apart the fork blade has to be opened and the fork blade has to be closed when the knife is put together. The blade can be used like a normal blade on a knife.

Size comparison to a Wenger Soldier in relationship to length. The Hartkopf is slighly larger.

Size comparison to broadness. The Hartkopf is a little broader due to its broader springs and scales.

I know there are some knife patterns with a spoon like the Case Hobo or other camp knives, but I liked the option on a forkblade on such a pocketable tool. And I don´t eat that much soup when I´m on the road. ;)
The horn scales are just great looking, if you ask me.

Your opinions and thoughts on this pattern are very welcome, as always fellows :)

Very cool knife, Andi!
That's some sweet horn
Thanks for sharing with the great pics!

Interesting knife, but that horn looks fantastic. Is this something currently made, or did you just find an old model that looks new? And, do you know what animal has horns like that?

Wow a great find Andi. Looks fantastic.

Thanks for the kind words, fellows :) I really like that one - especially when eating and drinking is some kind of a hobby :D

No, I bought it brandnew. This pattern is still in production at Hartkopf, Hubertus and several other Solingen cutleries.

Unfortunatelly I know nothing about the horn. It would really be pretty interessting to hear/see which animal has such horn. Maybe someone here knows which animal that could have propably been.

Very cool knife Andi! That one would be awfully handy to carry one while on one of my fishing/shore lunch cooking outings. It's gorgeous!

Pretty cool knife, Andi. Thanks for posting it. Let us know how it works out on the next picnic!

Thanks Dan & Gary :)

I let you know how it works after some periods of use... but I have no doubt that it makes a nicely Knife & Fork combination :D

Beautiful knife Andi! Looks pretty handy too.
If I had to guess I would say the covers are probably Asian Waterbuffalo horn. But of course this is just a guess.

Really nice interesting knife Andi
