F/S Knife Heat Treating?

Hey guys. I've been working on modifying a 1976-era, NATO marked F/S knife. So far, I've removed the pommel nut, handle, and guard, and put a wasp-waist on the blade where it meets the guard. Likewise on the guard itself. This is to facilitate a grip suggested by Ken Cox in another thread. I've replaced the funky pommel nut with a more substantial acorn-shaped finial, and I've designed a kydex sheath to be executed by a knifemaker near me. The same fella will put a nice black finish on it, after I've polished everything up nice.

I've put an improved bevel on the edges with my Edge-Pro. Now, I've been wondering if it would be worth my while to have it heat treated by someone like Paul Bos? I suspect that the steel as issued is not what it could be.

Any thoughts?
