Howdy.

I'd like to pick up another 4" knife and I have a chance to get a F1 3G for a decent price. I also recently discovered the busse cabs and it's a nice looking knife. I am purely interrested in comparing the steel on the two. Not resale value, handle shape etc. How does 3G fare compared to the mighty infi? I would use either as a skinning knife with light duties otherwise. No batoning, bending, standing on, diving etc. just regular gentle use other than skinning. Hitting a bone while processing a deer might be the worst it will encounter.

Thanks

Unless the deer has steel bones, processing should be easily handled by either. I do not have any experience with the 3G, but I do own a Busse SCABS and it's one hell of a knife.

Neither ? I'd recommend you look into Dozier knives for a good little skinner.

I had the F1 and gave it to my nephew to get him started. I miss the knife. Can chip easily if striking something hard like I did. I simply let the blade hit the ground by accident and it must have struck a rock in the dirt. it chipped but no big deal since I sharpened it out. I do have the CABS and I LOVE that knife. I have yet to damage the knife.
Honestly bro both knives are simply great.
Both will skin great and bushcraft great.

There are better choices for a skinning knife... But the Infi won't come anywhere near holding it's edge as long as 3G..however it will be more of a pain to sharpen if you let it get dull.

Thanks for the comments. What steel is better for skinning than 3g? Also I kind of like the full handle on the F1. Would be nice for skinning in cold weather.

It's not so much the steel.. It's the shape of the blade....(not to say neither can skin).. The 3G will hold it's edge for a good long time, and the thermorun handles are indeed nice in cold wet weather...

No experience with infi, but Fallknivens 3G blades are excellent. Take and hold a great edge.

I have had no problem with chipping on VG10 or 3G after sharpening a few times to get past the factory edge.

The Fallkniven HK9 is similar in size to the F1 but designed as a hunting knife. The cost is much higher as it is handcrafted and has micarta grips.

Fallkniven has a H1 in 3g that is more of a hunting and skinning knife and usually cheaper than the F1 3g..kelly

i have yet to own an INFI blade, but i do have a 3G fallkniven.

the trick with 3G steel is not to let it get super dull before sharpening it. if you let it get too dull, sharpening takes a while as the steel is so hard.
