I have recently gotten bit by the knife bug and just can't stop thinking about "whats next"

I bought the bk2 and the esse izula. the next rational step is to get something in the f1 and rc3 size range(rational in my mind anyways)

so which one do yall prefer? stainless vs not so stainless

I'm not exactly a steel expert so also which steel has better edge retention? and which would be easier to sharpen?

F1 will have stain resistance, strength, and edgeholding going for it, along with a longer blade.
The RC-3 should have better toughness(at the edge, anyway), and has the choil with finger groove if you like that sort of thing on a short knife.

The RC-3 is thinner overall, but the F1's convex grind will split better. Not sure how the edge geometry compares, but both VG-10 and 57RC 1095 are easy to sharpen.
For a "one knife" thing I'd take the F1 without hesitation(RC-4 would be more competition), but for a companion to a larger knife, the RC-3 might get the nod.
Doesn't sound like you really need either, so why not just get the one you like better?:D

well I got the bk2 at first for just a camping knife, camping as in taking a popup camper to different wma's hunting whitetail, hogs, and fishing(not exactly roughing it). well it ended up being waaay bigger than expected so I got the izula. the izula fits all my needs cutting food, edc, skinning game, and anything else I would need to do.

I would like a slightly longer blade than the izula hence looking into the f1 and rc3. the izula does everything I need, but I figured I'd treat myself to something else around Christmas time:)

They are both good knives.
However, things to consider:
1. "rubbery" handles (F1) vs micarta handles (rc-3)
2. stain/rust resistant blade (F-1) vs coated/easy rust blade (rc-3)

Since you allready have the bk-2 and the izula, I'd go with the F1.
Try a blade without any coating on it. You'll be amazed what that laminated VG-10 can do.

I would go for the F1 - the convex is awsome !Plus from my experence with both steels VG-10 is far superior in terms of edgeholding than 1095.Also when it's laminated it should be plenty string ;)
The one thing I do like better on the RC-3 is the handle material - the micarta is really great material :)

I would also recommend the F1 and if the handle material is an issue, you can get a custom micarta handled F1 from Knives Ship Free, but it's pricey. The laminated VG10 will not disappoint. If you can work your own handles, you can also get the F1 blank.

I'd only consider an F1 with micarta and I don't want to pay $230-300 for one, so thats why opted for an RC-3. No complaints. My RC-3 gets a lot more use than my RC-4 (which I think is too thick for its size). Anyhow, I'm sure you won't be disappointed with the performance of either knife. Again for me, the handle on the original F1 is a turnoff....but hey thats the main reason I hate mora knives so my preconceptions are what they are....

As already stated, they are both solid well built knives that will perform well.

I have the F1 and RC4. Based entirely on personal preference, not performance, I would recommend the F1.

I don't like the feel of the square, block like handle on the RC4, nor am I a fan of coated blades.

have you considered the HEST ?
compared to IZULA, slightly longer blade, much bigger handle, wider, thicker, and stuff like pry bar pommel , bottle opener , and more :D
here it is with the Izula and F1

F1 is my pick. They are incredibly nice, only fixed blade you would ever need as long as you don't want a chopper.
