Facebook knife pages

So there are some knife sites on Facebook that I’ve visited. There are some traditional pages where people have been showing old knives. Some of the people, moderators, take these old knives and buff the crap out of them, exposing the pin, and in my opinion ruining these old knives. Nothing looks worse than a highly buffed blade that had rust stains and pits in it. I learned from old school people like BRL that it’s a travesty to do this. Anyone else notice this? I hope people aren’t buying these knives.

You guys are right. I just need to cut my ties. They are theirs to do what they want. I just hate seeing history erased and the value of these knives become worthless. High end knives too.

Seems like a giant non-problem. I don't waste much time worrying about what other folks do to their knives and with something like that any potential buyers will be able to immediately see what they've done to it and make their choice based on that.

Remember, Facebook moderators are usually just people that know the guy who started the page. They're not necessarily very knowledgeable or experienced. I maintain a Facebook page to keep in touch with friends and for business reasons, but I completely ignore all the knife groups there.

I understand. When things get restored it's usually best to have a professional do it to try and keep it as close to original as possible. Otherwise, leave it alone. Some people don't see it that way, or of course think they are experts. Some don't understand patina is not a detriment to value. I didn't understand for the longest, and I personally don't like patina. But to each their own right?

I still don't understand when people have a car, like a classic or something new like a Corvette, and don't drive the thing. It was built to be driven! Corvettes aren't rare, they're not going to appreciate unless you have a rare model. I wish I could afford one, I would drive it everywhere. And then complain about Chevy engineering but that's a whole 'nother thread!
