Okay.....
I have been wondering about this a lot. To me it seems like a great idea and possible a very cool way to customize your handles. I've seen the black dyed HR on here, and it looks great.
So now, I've got a ton of questions:
1) What type of dye is used? Standard clothing dye? Others?
2) How permanent is it?
3) Has anyone tried dying the handles a different color? Blue and Green seem like they'd make black canvas come out the best, but dying a tan handle with red dye might be really cool too.
4) Does anyone have any pics of any creative dying?
5) How well would a differential dye treatment work, like dyeing the top part of your knife blue and the bottom black. Would masking tape work, or would there be a blur, or Is this just something I'd have to try because no one has done it yet?
5) Are there any breathing or contact hazards involved other than staining your hands? (how long would the stain last if you did get your hands......)
6) Anything else?
7) If dyed black canvas micarta looks so good, why don't they just use black cloth underneath to go with the micarta?
Same thing with the green, tan, etc?

This was brought up a few weeks ago and discussed to great length, I'll see if I can do a search and bring it up later.

btw, leather dye does a great job of soaking in and holding on. :(

does the leather dye come off with sandblasting?

I would think some of it would... I have been bored today so I got out some leather dye "not leather polish" and proceeded to dye the slabs on a Molle Jack. It seemed to soak in rather well and boy it's black... trying to decide if I wanna do another coat or not, doesn't need it but might make it blacker.

I'll post some pics when it's try enough to handle without making a mess.

Here's a pic I took on the way to the range yesterday. It kinda looks like I got dye on the blade around the micarta... it's either that or I didn't quite scrub off all the dried deer blood :D

Almost forgot... I used Fiebing's Leather die USMC Black #410

I'm curious on how the dye held up under use or handling... does it wear off on your hands?

Looks great by the way!!!

Been handling the knife a lot this week moving it around on my bench, no rubbing off so far. I'm waiting for a couple more kives before I fire up the blaster, then we'll see how it holds up to the beads.

Thanks Leatherman!!! I might just have to try this too! :D

Keep us posted on the bead blast tests.
