Factory Blade Finish (how?)

Hello together,

I wanted to know how the satin blades by Spyderco are finished at the factory?

F. e. the Shaman. My Rex 45 blade looks like it was milled first and then finished on a scotch or wire wheel? Is that correct? I like that finish quite a lot because it looks clean but not too polished.

Maybe someone from Spyderco company or other enthusiast can help me :)

Thanks and BR,
Oliver

They are tumbled in various grades of abrasive media. The finer the media, the finer the finish.

I've used scotch Brite pads to emulate the satin finish on my H1 spydercos. I think the green pad was the one I used

We have an entire finishing department with skilled craftsmen on a variety of wheels and belts. This is done after tumbling

Thanks for spoiling my fun. I wanted to ask for video of him trying to duplicate factory finish with a reloading case cleaner and a bunch of different abrasives.

Just kidding.😉

Thanks for the answeres.

Indeed I sometimes refinish or regrind the blades of knives. Mostly I use scotch belts on my beltgrinder for the final step. On a youtube video about Spyderco company production there is an employee shown working on a wheel to finish a PM2 blade and tang surface. Unfortunately I was not able to identify what kind of wheel it was, I guess that it was something like a scotch wheel. Not sure.
