I'm a lover of quality knives as much as the next knife fanatic. However it seems to me you can get some great knives for a fair price well below those of custom blades. Cold steel being one company. The first big fixed blade I ever bought was a Gerber BMF. I took that moster to the Gulf with me for 10 months. It took all the punishment I could dish it. It was a pry bar, field cutting tool used to cut banding and concerntina wire, and every other use I could find for it. Hell, I even cut some 2x4's for a bunker with the saw. It was exposed to salt water, and rain, you name it. After I left it was still in fantastic shape, the finish was worn and the sheath was hurting some, but I'd pit that BMF against alot of high end knives.
My BMF outperformed it's cost 10 times over.
Okay, so I carry a Chris Reeve Project One now, but hey, cut me some slack.
