Factory-engraved models?

I just ordered a Dragonfly which is said to be engraved from the factory. It has a spyder logo and webbing engraved on the handle.

Is this an old limited edition, some kind of custom option I didn't know about, or something that is released unadvertised now and then?

I think they are production items, I have just recieved a C07P with factory engraving and have a SE and a PS one as well.

Factory engraving is available on special order from the Spyderco Factory. Just about anything can be laser-engraved, from simple text to reproduction of photos. Arrangements for engraving can be made through a Spyderco Dealer or the Spyderco Factory Outlet.

What you have purchased is likely a knife that a dealer ordered, engraved with one of the common factory engraving patterns, to enhance sales value. It would be a special order, but a similar (web and spyder) engraved knives are offered for sale regularly.
