I have an amboyna slimlock that managed to get skipped in the sharpening process. It has no edge whatsoever on it. Case said it was very rare for this to happen and wanted me to send it in to get it sharpened. I declined because now it's "one of a kind". Anyone have a clue to this knives value? Any response is appreciated.

Have no idea of the sharpening. I doubt a totally unsharpened edge will cause the knife to be collector worthy. It happens with stamps... It happens with firearms. With firearms, dealers have tried to get a significant premium for the mis-marked firearm, but in most cases, that is a very specialize collector area and the increased value is minimal.

Sharp slip joints has always been a problem with the US knife makers. I don't see it as a problem in the Chinese or Japanese stuff. It is just poor QA/QC practices by US knife manufactures. Queen had quite a reputation for shipping knives with butter knife sharpened edges. That has changed with the change in ownership, but I feel sure it still happens. Even some of the GEC knives come poorly sharpend and they are usually a step up from Case.

I would send it to Case and have them sharpen it or replace it. Then if you want to keep it pristine for potential collector reasons, do so.

Since I am not highly knowledgeable on this particular knife, if it is already a very collectable knife and values have increased over retail, I might consider keeping it unsharpened just for the novelty. But if it is current production, I would have Case sharpen it for you. I just wanted to make this clear as it is your decision as to what happens next.

Thanks again 22 rimfire. That particular pattern is getting harder to find. I bought the knife for my collection so I was actually thrilled to see it was an error. I am gonna hang on to it the way it is. I appreciate the replies
