Can anyone tell me what the factory grind angles are for the ESEE 3, ESEE4, ESEE 5 and the Junglas are?

I Sharpen with a spyderco sharpmaker and i am getting really awesome results, but i am not always sharpening at 30 or 40 degrees, i move the blade until the grind is flat on the rod and then sharpen..it works so well. i dont see the point or need of useing a benchstone unless you either want to, or just want to re profile. I am not concerned about moving alot of metal, if i have to do that as i have in the past with other knives i just freehand on a bench stone. That sharpmaker puts out some damn consistent angles though!

anyway if somone could tell me what those factory grind angles are for those knives that would be great.

thanks!

20 degrees each side is what we shoot for at the shop. But remember that the edge grind is put on by hand at the shop so it can vary slightly.

On most of my ESEE knives I use the 40 degree side of the sharpmaker and it's perfect.

on my 3's, one izula, and one Six, I knocked back the powder coat on a benchstone, and use the 30 degree side.

I'm an old school benchstone guy. Since I've used them so long ( 30 some years) , I get pretty good results wether I want to take a lot of metal off for re-profiling ,or just polishing. I usually follow the factory grind, and I'm good to go. My blades don't end up convexed either unless I want them that way.

I tend to like the greater suface area of the benchstone for control ,and I know I'll get almost lifetime service out of my stones, so they are a good investment for me.
