I'm just getting into collecting knifes. I've always loved folding knives, especially German brands. I have little knowledge of the history of the old factories and I’m trying to study up. I've had a hard time finding websites that covers more than the basic history. If anyone knows any good websites to look at I would appreciate it very much.

I've learned a lot just hanging out here, and in Bernards forum. Picked up a copy of the Blade Guide to Knives too, not much on the price guide aspect of it, but I love the history lesson!

Blade's Guide to Knives and Their Values has about 2 pages on Solingen which is about synonomous with German cutlery. The Levine's Guide III or IV (this became Blade's Guide) is better from an overall history standpoint but not much more on Solingen. It has better detail on the history of patterns...congress, whittler, stockman, etc...

Boker has a page on their history:

If anyone knows where one can find more history on German Eye, I would be interested in that.

Interesting thread. I'm very keen on finding out more on knife history too, I have a couple of books in French on French cutlers, if I could read German then I suspect there would be a lot of books on German knives. Knife ads and old catalogues interest me a lot&I've seen valuable things from these on this forum. Tried asking in the Euro knife forum as well?
