Factory Lock Problem with BM Leopard Cub

Today I got two mint Benchmade Leopards; a full-size and a Cub.
The full-size is perfect, but the lock doesn't engage on the Cub.
The locking bar doesn't pass the tang and ride up onto the lock ramp. (Just barely) It looks like just a couple thousanths need to be removed from either the end of the locking (liner) bar or the ramp.

I haven't talked to Benchmade or the guy I got it from yet. I wanted to consider all my options first, including fixing it myself.

Should I just take it apart and use some emery paper to remove some metal from the end of the bar? Take it off the ramp instead? What do you think?

Send it to me. I'll use it until it wears into a safe range of operation.

Seriously, though. From whom did you get the Leopard Cub? I want a black, PE version.

I would take a little off the end of tang. If I'm understanding correctly, it simply is a little too thick for the lock to engage. Just file it down a tad, should be fine.

Otherwise, send it in, their warrantee service is tip-top.

I got it on ebay, but they guy's got a website www.adamsknifeworks.com

I took it apart and took the tiniest hair off the locking bar and when I put it back together it worked good UNTIL I put the clip back on and tightened it down and then it was back the way it was. ODD.

It'll lock if I flick it open really hard. Maybe I'll just do that for a while until it wears. I don't know.

Next to sending it in to Angie at Benchmade for adjustment, your 2nd best bet is to just "work" it for awhile 'till it sets in.

If I were you I'd flick it open hard for a while, use it for rough tasks (as long as there's only pressure being applied to the edge), and just let it break in on its own. I wouldn't mess with the geometry of the lockup. If you can't break it in to a proper lockup in a few days or so, send it in and ask if they can tune it up for you.

Just my 2 cents :)

Ah, screw it!

I flicked it a million times over the last 24 hours. I called BM just out of curiosity and they were totally cool and didn't care that I got it on ebay and only wanted to charge me the $5 for return shipping. So, off it went!

There were also a few rough spots on the liners that had a couple specs of rust around them so I pointed that out to them too and asked them to smooth it out.

I shouldn't have bothered ya'all and called them in the first place.

fulloflead, I am not familiar with this model, is it a liner lock ? If it is, sometimes you can loosen pivot screw and push blade all the way open, pretty hard and liner will drop in place, then push liner lock over as far as you can, then tighten pivot pin while knife is still open.
Then try it again, it should pop into place on it's own, sometimes when pivot pin is loose, the blade will move a tiny bit forward, enough to allow liner lock to be forced into position, and then it will stay this way after you tighten pivot pin. I would try this before any filing is done, if it is not a liner lock, then disregard.
