In my search for oddball 112s I found a real neat one. Ivory micarta with a funny pigs head with corn stalks as a background. The seller bought it in the factory store in 1981,and it comes with a brown shethe and a display case..Im trying to find out as much as I can about scrimshawed 110s and 112s from that era...Were there a lot of different editions, how many {typical}of each one, info on artists, origional cost, was it a custom shop item only, what other topics or subjects were done ect. ect.....Do any of yall have a 110/112 one??? Or bought/sold one?? Know of anybody that has one? I will post a pic as soon as it gets here HELP! any tid-bit,lore,scrap,pic................THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! e;bay no..200186514049

Has Buck *ever* done any scrimshawed knives??? All the ones I've seen pics of were done by aftermarket distributors...They buy a case lot of Buck knives, and have them shipped to a scrimshawer/engraver (mechanical or manual) to have the scales scrimshawed. Some turn out good; some don't...

Is the funny pig a well-known one??? I mean, is it Porky Pig, or Wonder Warthog, or one like that???

Might be a promotional knife from a meat packer...(There's a meat packer in Buffalo whose slogan, printed on the sides of their delivery trucks, is - "You can't beat our meat!")...

I think it could be "WILBER" Seller said he bought it IN the Buck factory store...If Buck had it in there store, hmmmm, seems like it should be a "Factory" item......Mabe Joe would have some insite on this.......

my two cents on this is :
if it is not done by hand it has to be called engraveing or imattion..
it can only be call schrimshaw if it is done by hand...
weather it is fancy or high art engraveing or
trditional or folk art or craft art such as i do...
buck has sold factrory schrimshaw on many custom knives..
but i am not in to fixed blades or 112's...

Buck has marketed several knives with scrimshaw such as the Christopher Columbus 110 and several Customs. However, Buck has never employed a scrimshist, so all scrimshaw was outsourced.

I sent Joe a e;mail today referenceing the "PIG" If any one will know....

Wilber is home! The Ivory micarta is a deep yellow, and the scrimshaw looks like it was hand done. The artist sig. is Natalic [e?] 81 ,no nail nick, brass bolsters,3 1/8 pins It reall is going to get some looks when I set up for a show...Has any body heard of her?

Wilber is home! The Ivory micarta is a deep yellow...

Yeah, it gets that way after a couple years...I have some handgun grips of Ivory Micarta, made by an old timer out West-way...I think I still have a couple of his boxes; have to look up his name...

Do the scales on Wilbur have the linen or canvas reinforcing??? Can you see the pattern??? On a flat scaled knife like the 112 it would be hard to see, I imagine...

Well I took a look at the pictures and it does not look like it was re-handled outside of Buck. I have never heard of Natalie but 1981 preceeds my 1985 hire date. I sent an email to a couple guys here that might know something about her or the knife.
We did not actually have a company store that I know of back then. That does not mean that a person couldnt order a custom. Does the knife have a serial number? If it doesnt, that does not actually mean much because the earlier customs did not necesarily have serial numbers.
That type of sheath first came on the scene in about 1981 so the sheath supports the story.

Thanks Joe! .....All of us on the forum and in BCCI are sure glad your here! Thanks again, and if/when some info on "Wilbur" comes in Ill be waiting.....Hes a great Buck and Im glad to hear he looks factory. There is no serial number and the sheath was for a 500..Joe have you seen many scrimshawed 112s? The topic {pig} seems to me unusual have you seen ANY Buck with a humurous theme???

Well, "Wilbur" is going to take a little trip to Post Falls so Chuck can take a look at him....I wish I could go with him...
