I handed my Shaman to a buddy a few weeks ago. Ten seconds later he handed it back to me with a chipped blade tip.

I ended up sending it to Golden for a sharpening service, Spyderco received it two weeks ago.

What’s the average turn around time? Do they ship back via USPS or another carrier?

I'm guessing at least 2 week. Sorry... couldn't resist. How the heck did they chip S30V that quickly? Dropped?

For various reasons I no longer offer up knives to anybody who doesn't own expensive ones. A buddy and swap knives all the time with the agreement that if we damage it we replace it with a new one.

My wife taught me to never loan a knife to somebody who doesn't own a good one. She used to occasionally loan a her knife to some doofus co-worker who didn't have one. She saw misuse or abuse every time. And her blade was scratched and chipped. That stopped when she got an expensive knife. It gets used on the job, cuts everything, and looks almost new after several years. I asked her how that is. "I never let anybody else touch it."

I think average turnaround is 3-4 weeks. The longest I had a knife there was 4 weeks, and that's because I neglected to leave a slip with my return address in the box. Their warranty department used to be pretty small (maybe 3 people), but I'm not sure if they've expanded it or not. It doesn't hurt to give them a call and check up on your knives. As for return shipping, I think they send via UPS.

Thank you stunt double! I’m hoping they count the small chip in the tip as a regular sharpening job and don’t charge the extra $20 for “tip repair”.

I was pleasantly surprised when I sent mine in for sharpening. It depends on how busy they are, I'm sure, but definitely reasonably fast. I know it seems long while you are missing your knife though, even if it is actually quick.

I took in a Maxamet mule team that I dinged the blade pretty good. I think they had it just over 3 weeks, but not 4. The sharpening guy who was the one capable of fixing my goof was on vacation for one week of that, which happens. I called at the 3 week mark and they said it would be that week, and I got a call 3 days later to come pick it up.
