Hi all.
I was wondering how companies sharpen their plain edges. It appears in all cases that the edge bevel is applied with a fairly coarse grit, then finished at a higher angle, like a microbevel, with something very fine.
I dont have lenses or equipment to find out for positive, and searches have came up short. In my primitive angle test, which involves sliding the cutting edge along something smooth and hard, like a Bic lighter, until it bites, the angle of the blade far exceeds the angle of the visible grind. Leads me to believe im witnessing the effects of a microbevel. IM SPECIFICALLY WONDERING IF THE MICROBEVEL IS INTENTIONAL. Also, specifically curious about spyderco, tho all my other knives came that way new.
If anyone in the know can confirm this, it would quell my curiosity. Any other details on factory sharpening are welcomed as well.
Thx.
