Would it be possible to send multiple knives of different brands to a single company (i.e. Boker, Kershaw, Buck) and have them resharpen all of them, rather then individually sending knives to their respective companies?

Also, whats the best sharpening tool/method? Is it possible to have only 1 sharpener for all knives, or do you need different ones for each different type of knife and grind.

I don't think you will find any manufacturer that will touch another knife that doesn't have their name on it.

i use the same system for sharpening any knife no matter what the make. i use cardboard wheels to do all of my sharpening.

as mentioned, good luck finding a company that will sharpen knives from a different company (though as i understand it mike stewart of BRKT will convex any knife sent to him, and tom krien will regrind knives sent to him).

a basic two sided bench stone is fine for most sharpening, and it can be used on just about any grind (even convex, but it doesn't do a very even job). i suggest getting a double sided bench stone at the hardware store, and get a cheapie folding knife out of the buckets at a gas station for a dollar or two, and teach yourself how to sharpen. keep practicing until you can get that little knife sharp, then move on to your good knives.

do some google searches for "knife sharpening" and "how to sharpen a knife". read many of them, and do what they all say to do.

If you just want to send your knives to one place to save the trouoble there are several people that do sharpening that you can send your knives to.

Go here.

Buy what he tells you, and do what he says.

You'll very quickly be able to sharpen anything to a strong scary sharp edge, quickly. You'll soon become the knife sharpening wizard of the neighborhood. Women will beg you to sharpen their kitchen knives. Strong men will faint when they finally have a sharp hunting or fishing knife. You'll be the knife sharpening hero.

Seriously - it works, and way better than you think it will.

Just remember to start out practicing on some cheapy kitchen knives. That will take an hour max. After that, your edges will amaze you!
